A traveler stumbles upon soccer heaven in the south of France
[aix-en-provence & me]
Aix-en-Provence is a city in the south of France about 19 miles from Marseille.
I spent a week in Marseille during early August and wound up taking a day-trip to Aix-en-Provence. I like to freestyle when I travel, so I didn't have much of an itinerary for the trip. I was a bit shook when I arrived at the Aix-en-Provence train station because it was a lot less metropolitan that I was expecting; or at least used to. The data wasn't working on my phone, so without the help of Google Maps, I started blindly walking into the city hoping I'd end up somewhere good.
Luckily, I wound up in the city center with little problem, but most things were closed when I arrived because it was still quite early in the morning. I eventually saw a sign for a bus tour, but the first one wasn't set to leave for another hour. I told myself I'd go explore, and if I didn't come across anything worthwhile, I'd come back for the tour.
I wound up walking away from the city center, through a couple of quiet roads and eventually came across a small park. I walked in, thinking I might find a nice spot to read. Instead, I found heaven; which for me is a soccer field. Or in this case, the soccer complex of Pays d'Aix FC, the local club.
